Recently MVC sat down with South African Human Rights Commissioner, Ms Angie Makwetla during the IEC Commissioner candidate interviews in Midrand. Commissioner Makwetla and her panel members which also included Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane and Deputy Chairperson of the Commission for Gender Equality, Tamara Mathebula interviewed 23 shortlisted candidates hoping to get one of three Commissioner spots at the IEC.
We spoke about what they were looking for in a suitable candidate for this top job. We also touched on what these new Commissioners could expect from being part of the Electoral Commission and whether they’d be ready to host the much anticipated 2019 general elections.
