A call for public written submissions on the Political Party Funding Bill is open.

This follows the first meeting by the new Ad Hoc Committee on the Funding of Political Parties in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP). On 27 March, the National Assembly (NA) had passed the Bill after intense deliberations as part of the legislative process. It now goes to the NCOP for deliberations which chairperson Mr Dikgang Stock (ANC) said would not be any different to the processes by the NA. “There is no need for us to reinvent the wheel,” he told the committee as they decided on dates for the 6 week long process.

The public has until 16:00 on Friday, 8 June 2018 to email their comments to Ms E Grunewald at egrunewald@parliament.gov.za.

The committee will also be having public hearings on Thursday, 14 June 2018 and Wednesday, 20 June 2018.

Should the NCOP pass the Bill, it will be sent to the President for it to be signed into law. If the NCOP rejects the Bill and or makes amendments, the Ad Hoc committee in the National Assembly would be revived for deliberations.

Take part in the democratic process by having your say on this Bill.
